Your function

The Sustainability Director acts as the overarching Group-level thought leader for the Social dimension of Ageas’ ESG ambition and for the insurance-related sustainability agenda. The role defines and owns the long-term vision and strategic transformation roadmap for ESG Products, responsible underwriting, social impact and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), ensuring alignment with Ageas’ overall business strategy and long-term value creation. It delivers forward-looking insights directly to the Board, Executive Committee, Business Committee and operating companies, shapes Group direction and establishes the strategic frameworks, governance principles and standards required for consistent execution across Europe and Asia. As the ultimate internal and external authority for this domain, the Sustainability Director challenges the status quo, mobilises senior stakeholders across business and central functions, and represents Ageas in relevant external governance bodies and expert networks.

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Own and define the long-term ESG Products ambition as a core pillar of the Ageas sustainability and business strategy, setting the Group-wide strategic direction, priorities, frameworks and transformation roadmap for operating companies in Europe and Asia.
  • Together with Finance, define the Group-wide ESG Products performance framework, recommend targets and strategic trade-offs, and ensure transparent accountability for delivery and impact.
  • Together with Risk, define the Group strategy and governance for embedding ESG in underwriting, setting binding Group-wide principles and advising the Executive Committee on business-critical sustainability choices, risk appetite and long-term financial resilience.
  • Together with HR, own the Group-level vision and strategic framework for social sustainability, belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), integrating these priorities into Ageas’ business strategy, governance, leadership expectations, culture and external positioning.
  • Define the Group’s long-term social impact ambition and lead a portfolio of initiatives that strengthen inclusiveness, accessibility, community resilience and sustainable value creation across Ageas.
  • Shape the overall effectiveness, governance and thought leadership of Group Sustainability, acting as the deputy and strategic sparring partner to the Group Director Sustainability for the assigned domains.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree, combined with recognised thought leadership in sustainability and the authority to connect ESG priorities with Group strategy, insurance products, underwriting, financial resilience and long-term value creation.
  • Passioned by the human (“Social”) dimension of sustainability.
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience, including substantial responsibility for Group-wide or enterprise-level sustainability strategy, business transformation, insurance products or underwriting, and regular engagement with Board and Executive Committee stakeholders.
  • Enterprise-level strategic thinker with a proven ability to solve unprecedented, business-critical challenges, translate ambiguity into a compelling long-term vision and transformation roadmap, and take clear positions on complex strategic trade-offs.
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex, cross-border transformation agendas, with the gravitas to mobilise senior leaders and operating companies without relying on hierarchical authority.
  • Positive, pragmatic and creative mindset, combined with high standards for quality, governance and reporting.
  • Executive-level communicator and negotiator who can act as a primary strategic partner to Board, Executive Committee and Business Committee members, constructively challenge senior decision-makers, build durable Group-wide commitment and maintain an influential external network.
  • Comfortable with reporting, digital tools and AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Fluent in English and willing to travel when necessary.
