The vibrant Ageas Corporate Centre in Brussels is home to a variety of Group level functions including, amongst others, Risk, Finance, Legal & Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Strategy, Business Development and Corporate Communications. It sets out the long term strategy for Ageas and coordinates numerous initiatives across the Group to help realise the strategic ambitions. The Corporate Centre also facilitates knowledge and skills sharing amongst its local operating entities and JV’s, creating strong connections and leveraging on local strengths. It represents the Ageas Group towards external parties, managing relations with analysts, retail and institutional investors, regulators, rating agencies and the media.

The Group Corporate Legal team supports the Ageas Corporate Centre and the Group’s entities on a broad range of legal matters, including corporate law, litigation, regulatory and listed-entity matters, ESG, reinsurance, contract law, transversal legal topics and legal operations. It acts as a centre of legal expertise and governance for the Group.

Your function

As a Legal Counsel - Corporate Legal & Legal Operations, you will combine core in-house legal work with a key role in helping shape the future of the legal function. You will work closely with Corporate Centre functions and Group stakeholders while contributing to initiatives that improve how legal services are delivered across Ageas.

 

  • Corporate legal
    • Provide practical, business-oriented and risk-based legal advice to Corporate Centre functions on a broad range of legal matters relevant to Ageas.
    • Monitor and analyse legal and regulatory developments relevant to Ageas and assess their impact on Ageas’ activities, operations and strategic objectives.
    • Support the implementation of new legal and regulatory requirements through cross-functional projects involving a variety of stakeholders across the organisation.
    • Review and advise on internal policies and procedures ensuring alignment with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a wide variety of agreements, ranging from supplier contracts to strategic and complex intra-group arrangements, with a strong focus on finding pragmatic business solutions.
    • Follow-up of (pre-)litigation matters, in close cooperation with external counsel.
    • Advise on intellectual property matters and contribute to the protection and management of the Group’s intellectual assets.
  • Legal operations & tech
    • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and optimise the way legal services are delivered within the Corporate Centre and across the Group.
    • Act as a change agent, promoting innovation, continuous improvement and the responsible use of technology within the legal function.
    • Help drive the adoption of legal tech, including AI-enabled solutions.
    • Manage the legal function's external provider ecosystem, including legal service providers and legal tech vendors, covering selection processes, contract negotiations, performance monitoring, budget oversight and value delivery.
    • Contribute to Group-wide legal operations and tech initiatives, governance forums and cross-functional projects.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Law from a Belgian university;
  • At least 5 years of experience in a reputable law firm or with the in-house legal department of a significant player. Experience in the financial services or insurance sector, and/or with issuers listed on a stock exchange is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial and regulatory law, combined with experience advising on a broad range of legal matters.
  • A genuine interest in legal operations, legal tech, AI and the transformation of legal functions.
  • Strong working knowledge of English, French and/or Dutch.
  • Strong analytical skills combined with a pragmatic and business-oriented mindset.
  • Curious, proactive and eager to challenge existing ways of working and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and collaborating across departments.
