Ageas Re is organized as a Business Unit within ageas SA/NV, the Group holding, on whose balance sheet it underwrites third-party and intra-group reinsurance under the trade name Ageas Re. Today, Ageas Re serves clients globally, specializing in property and casualty treaty reinsurance. The Ageas Re underwriting team is based both in Brussels and Zurich. This position can hence be located in either Brussels or Zurich depending on the candidate.
Your function
Your main responsibilities are to:
- build the North American Property department as a greenfield, choosing and implementing the relevant tools and processes and relevant steering metrics & reports/dashboards;
- lead the development of the North America underwriting department and ensure it operates efficiently & effectively including portfolio management & monitoring (data management/ aggregation reporting/ quality of risks/ contract review);
- help develop LoB underwriting policy, procedure and guidelines in compliance with Ageas Group’s expectations;
- pro-actively participate in the definition & implementation of the North America Property Underwriting strategy in terms of cedant selection, underlying product scope and product mix as well as geographies;
- assume responsibility for underwriting quality, technical underwriting results and alignment with risk appetite;
- analyse, negotiate and underwrite North America Property reinsurance submissions in line with underwriting guidelines and strategy to make informed decisions;
- develop quality business relationship with clients and brokers, perform client visits and portfolio checks to maintain a thorough understanding of cedants’ underwriting approach, technical expertise and get proper evaluation of (pending) claims;
- work closely with actuaries, claims and operations colleagues to improve technical models and ensure effective claims and underwriting processes;
- represent Ageas Re to brokers, clients and at relevant conferences.
Your profile
- University degree or equivalent education within the reinsurance industry;
- More than 10 years’ experience as a (re)insurance underwriter of US and Canadian Property;
- Excellent client service experience and in-depth understanding of underwriting and pricing tools;
- Passionate about this LoB & interest in Natural Hazards and Property (re)insurance level of business acumen, including the ability to find creative solutions and deliver on client expectations and requirements;
- Strong leadership skills to motivate and inspire others to achieve ambitious goals;
- Analytical skills and Innovation capability;
- Ability to think creatively and drive new solutions;
- Confident, engaging manner and strong negotiation skills;
- Good understanding of modelling and pricing for Natural Perils and Property risks;
- Capacity to deal positively with ambiguity and conflict;
- Good business planning skills;
- Communication skills in English;
- Willingness to travel frequently.
