The vibrant Ageas Corporate Centre in Brussels is home to a variety of Group level functions including, amongst others, Risk, Finance, Legal & Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Strategy, Business Development and Corporate Communications. It sets out the long term strategy for Ageas and coordinates numerous initiatives across the Group to help realise the strategic ambitions. The Corporate Centre also facilitates knowledge and skills sharing amongst its local operating entities and JV’s, creating strong connections and leveraging on local strengths. It represents the Ageas Group towards external parties, managing relations with analysts, retail and institutional investors, regulators, rating agencies and the media.

The Group Corporate Legal function supports the Ageas Corporate Centre and the Group’s entities on a broad range of legal matters, including corporate law, litigation, regulatory and listed-entity matters, ESG, reinsurance, contract law and transversal legal topics. It acts as a centre of legal expertise and governance for the Group. As part of an evolution of the legal organisation, Ageas is strengthening its leadership by consolidating legal content, team leadership and legal operations under a single role: Head of Corporate Legal reporting to the Group General Counsel.

Your function

Your main responsibilities are:

• Corporate legal
  • Strategic leadership of the Corporate legal team of seven people at Corporate Centre, including advisory to senior management, coordination of legal activities, prioritisation and allocation of work and coaching / development of the team;
  • Acting as a trusted legal partner to senior management and key internal stakeholders, providing strategic legal advice on material legal matters;
  • Group‑level coordination and follow‑up of legal reporting and material legal matters arising within the operational companies, ensuring appropriate visibility, escalation and alignment.
  • Identification, assessment and mitigation of legal risks impacting Ageas SA/NV and other Group-level activities, including emerging risks with a cross-border or cross-entity dimension;
  • Coordination and follow-up of litigation matters, in close cooperation with external counsel and senior management;
  • Further development and facilitation of the Group Legal Community, promoting knowledge-sharing and initiative scaling.
  • Guidance and oversight on intra-Group contracts, cooperation arrangement and legal frameworks, ensuring consistency, legal soundness and alignment with Group policies and governance principles.
• Legal operations & tech
  • End-to-end responsibility for legal operations at Ageas SA/NV, including process optimisation, legal technology, vendor management and knowledge management;
  • Development and execution of a legal tech and operational excellence roadmap for the legal function at Ageas SA/NV, in collaboration with IT and key stakeholders;
  • Contribution to Group-wide legal operations and tech initiatives, governance forums and cross-functional projects, including reporting on legal risks and performance indicators.

Your profile

• Master’s degree in Law from a Belgian university;
• Extensive professional experience (12+ years) in an in-house legal role within a complex international organisation and/or a reputable law firm;
• Solid expertise in corporate and contract law, with strong understanding of listed-company obligations;
• Proven experience in leading & coaching legal teams & experts;
• A personal interest in driving legal operations and/or transformation initiatives;
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to operate at senior management level;
• Structured, pragmatic and business-oriented mindset combined with legal excellence;
• Fluency in English and strong working knowledge of French and Dutch.
