The vibrant Ageas Corporate Centre in Brussels is home to a variety of Group level functions including, amongst others, Risk, Finance, Legal & Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Strategy, Business Development and Corporate Communications. It sets out the long term strategy for Ageas and coordinates numerous initiatives across the Group to help realise the strategic ambitions. The Corporate Centre also facilitates knowledge and skills sharing amongst its local operating entities and JV’s, creating strong connections and leveraging on local strengths. It represents the Ageas Group towards external parties, managing relations with analysts, retail and institutional investors, regulators, rating agencies and the media.
Your function
As a Corporate Legal Counsel at ageas SA/NV, you will be part of the corporate legal team and play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal advice and support to the Group. Your responsibilities will be varied and will include:
- Draft a diverse range of contracts at holding level, from supplier contracts to strategic intra-group agreements, delivering sound legal advice with a hands-on approach and a full understanding of the requirements of the business. As Ageas is involved in various innovative projects, many of these contracts are technology-related.
- Act as sparring partner of the internal clients and collaborating with them for pragmatic, business friendly, and legally sound solutions
- Participate in transversal and multidisciplinary projects across the Group
- Support our sustainability team with legal advice on ESG matters
- Stay up-to-date with the latest legal and regulatory developments relevant to Ageas, including sector-specific regulations and participating in the implementation within the Group
- Review internal procedures and policies from a legal perspective and make them as hands-on as possible
- Occasionally follow up on litigation procedures, together with external counsel
- You may be asked to travel occasionally
You will report directly to the Group Head of Legal and work alongside a team of dedicated professionals.
Your profile
- You have obtained a Belgian master’s in law degree
- You have acquired at least 5 years of experience in a reputable law firm or with the in-house legal department of a significant player.
- Experience in the financial services or insurance sector, and/or with issuers listed on a stock exchange is a plus.
- You have a strong working knowledge of English and French and/or Dutch (both orally and in writing)
- You have a profound knowledge of contract law, and have experience with negotiating IT-contracts (SaaS, cloud and technology development contracts) & company law in the broadest sense, and thoroughly understand the legal implications of Ageas's status as a listed company
- You are a smart, energetic and enthusiastic person who likes to constantly delve into new legal topics both in breadth and depth
- You are a team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and working with others within and outside of the legal department
