Why opt for a cafetaria plan?
Unlike standard group insurance plans, a cafeteria plan such as e-volulife can be tailored to fit the individual needs of your staff.
You decide how your staff members can choose their covers and how their premiums (plus any profit sharing) will be invested in the investment funds.
Based on your pre-set "rules of the game", your staff members:
select the covers that appeal to them. They can, for example, assign a lower weighting to death benefit or disability coverage.
decide how they want their premiums and any profit sharing invested in the various funds you have selected.
For staff members that decide not to hand-pick any options, they will be entitled to the default group insurance options that you have selected for them.
How does this plan work in practice?
Branch 21, Branch 23 or both?
Give your staff members the opportunity to invest in Branch 21 and/or Branch 23 funds. Or select a combination of both:
The Branch 21 fund offers a guaranteed return on investment, plus the opportunity to earn profit sharing (not guaranteed).
Branch 23 funds (with no guaranteed return) contain a mix of equities and/or bonds and/or other asset classes. The return will vary based on the performance of the underlying investments.
These two branches can also be combined: you can allocate the premiums to Branch 21 and invest the profit sharing in Branch 23. With our digital support, your staff members can easily change the way they want their investments allocated across the different funds.
Higher or lower weighting for covers
If you allow your employees to choose their supplementary covers, they can – from among your pre-set options – assign a higher or lower weighting to these covers as part of the cafeteria plan. For example, they can set aside a bigger or smaller share of the budget to increase or decrease their death benefit coverage.
Cash advances
Another option is to allow your staff members to take out a cash advance against their supplementary pension benefits. This way, they can use some of their accrued supplementary pension savings before their retirement to purchase or renovate real estate or to pay off a mortgage loan.
