Thanks to your employer, you're entitled to income protection insurance with AG Employee Benefits & Health Care while you're off on long-term sick leave.

What exactly does your corporate-sponsored income protection insurance cover?

Go to MyAG Employee Benefits to find out.

1. Why a replacement income?

Every month, your income insurance will pay out a replacement income while you're off on incapacity leave. Employers include this coverage as a way to top up the state incapacity benefits, which are often too low to keep up with day-to-day expenses.

2. When can you make a claim against your income protection insurance?

You can use your income protection insurance as a financial safety net while you're off on long-term incapacity leave for any of the following reasons:

  • post-natal maternity leave
  • an illness
  • a workplace accident
  • a non-workplace accident

3. Even more peace of mind with optional covers:

  • Time-credit coverage

With a time-credit scheme, you can work less or reduce your working hours for a certain period of time, without terminating your employment contract. If you decide to participate in a time-credit scheme (100%), your income protection insurance will also be suspended, i.e. you'll lose your right to a replacement income.

If, however, your employer has included the time-credit option, your enrolment in the income protection plan will remain intact throughout your "justified" time-credit leave (for example, time off to care for a sick family member), provided that the time-credit period is one year or less. In other words, you'll be entitled to a replacement income once your waiting period has been served, as if you had gone back to work according to your normal schedule.

  • Return-to-work assistance programme (optional)

If you're on sick leave due to a stress-related condition (such as depression or burnout), you're generally entitled - if insured with AG Employee Benefits - to specialised assistance and guidance provided by one of our independent external partners. Participation is on a voluntary basis and completely free of charge. This return-to-work programme will help get you back to work safely and successfully, in the best possible conditions.

To find out if you, too, are entitled to this additional coverage, go to MyAG Employee Benefits.

  • My Mind by AG: for mental well-being

What isn't covered?

Any incapacity for work resulting, for example, from reckless behaviour or the consumption or abuse of alcohol or narcotics will be excluded from coverage. Any illness or injury, including pregnancy and childbirth, that existed prior to the enrolment date will be excluded from coverage. In addition, coverage for certain mental disorders will be capped at a maximum of two years.

Before taking out this insurance, be sure to read through the IPID summary sheet, your source for clear, concise information about your prospective coverage. This document contains general information about AG insurance products. Coverage will be provided for a full year, renewable by tacit agreement at the end of each policy year. The exact scope of coverage is detailed in the General Terms and Conditions. A quote and proposal are available free of charge on our website www.agemployeebenefits.be. Our insurance polices are governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Belgium. Complaints can be filed with AG's Complaint Resolution Department (tel. 02 664 02 00 - customercomplaints@aginsurance.be). If you remain dissatisfied with the company’s final response to your complaint, you can ask the Insurance Ombudsman to formally review your case (35 square de Meeûs, 1000 Brussels, tel. 02 547 58 71, www.ombudsman.as).
